How do I remove adware that affects IE?

Ok, one month ago, i picked up an adware program called Outerinfo.

It uses Internet explorer to put pop ups onto my computer.

I recently switched to mozilla firefox, got spybot, and have mcafee and fix-it utilities as virus scanners.

Since i started using FireFox, i still got ads from IE, all from outerinfo.

Fix-it has picked up multiple trojans recently, which i delete quickly. Spybot has removed things like: ie.firewall.bypass

mcafee just says that my gamespy stuff is adware -.-

I delete outerinfo using search, however, each time i am unable to delete something, be it a cookie, or a program.

Eventually, the program comes back.

Before i began really searching for it, it would spam with one ad every once in a while, now it has progresed to about 3-4 ads at once.

I know i cant delete IE, and I want to avoid reformatting if i can help it.

Any tips on any scanners beyond what i have?(free of course) or how to remove this program?

Thanks for reading this, I know its long.

Help is welcome.

Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything. This because the program you download can get infected.

Disable "System Restore" for Windows Me and XP, then restart your PC to clean your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/en-us/management/sysrestore_faq.mspx

Now restart in safe mode.

To get in safe mode Press "F8" upon boot up.

Select "Safe mode with Network".

Go to Start â€" Run - type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Enter(ok).

Do a full scan of all your drives. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.

When that scan does not find anything you reboot again in safe mode with network.

Go to Start â€" Run â€" type iexplore http://www.ewido.net/en/ Enter(ok).

Do a full scan of all your drives. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.

**NOTE**: Do NOT do anything else with your computer when scanning. This because you can start virus/adware/spyware/malware manually.

When no one of these scanners are showing anything you can reboot back to normal mode.

Turn on "System Restore".

---------------

Antivirus: BitDefender Online scanner - will scan and remove threats.

Anti adware/spyware: Ewido Online Scanner - will scan and remove threats.

---------------

**NOTE**: Only have one antivirus program and one firewall installed on your computer.

Anti-adware/malware/spyware are ok to have more off.

You need to get one antivirus program, one firewall, pop up blocker and some spyware/adware/malware removers if you don't have it.

Hi there,

Please go to www.lavasoft.com and download the Ad-Aware Personal edition which is free for personal use. Run a full system scan and you'll be up and running your PC just like you used to. I run it once a week to keep my PC running smoothly.

Good luck!

Outerinfo can be a pain to remove.

How to remove Outerinfo pop-ups "Self Help", (aka as PurityScan - OIN - ad.oinadserver.com):

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/How_remove_Outerinfo_pop_ups_Self_Help_t72137.html

Scroll down to the article, do NOT use any advertised program at the top of the page.

Try WebRoot Spysweeper available at most computer stores. If you do a scan and it doesn't remove everything then contact their technical support and they will work with you until you get it solved.

Ad-Aware

search it in google
