Why can't I make gamespy work?

Everything works until I try and join a gaming lobby. When I do so a screen pops up like an internet browser and says, this program is not connected to internet. Even though I clearly am, as I am asking this question right now. I have vista and already made sure I was updated

Go back and read the directions again. Check off each step as you complete it.
